Veteran singer/songwriter/musician Durwood Haddock whose career dates back to the golden age of country music releases his fifth album with the unique title HANKS A LOT.  Durwood reaches back to that golden era in which he most certainly is familiar performs  12 of his favorite HANK songs by HANK WILLIAMS, HANK SNOW, HANK THOMPSON and HANK LOCKLIN.   These are songs that Durwood learned when he was barely a teenager and later performed on radio, in honky tonks & dance halls in Texas before he was twenty.
Durwood’s  career as a vocalist never reached the brass ring status, but his writing most certainly did.  In l954 the first song he wrote with Eddie Miller & recorded on 4 Star Records titled THERE SHE GOES didn’t result in Durwood becoming a house hold name as an artist, but CARL SMITH’S recording, a number three chart the following year in l955, started a whole new career  for Durwood as a song writer.  Later the song was recorded by PATSY CLINE(There He Goes) and eventually sold in the millions in THE PATSY CLINE COLLECTION in l991.   In l980 it was featured in the Oscar winning movie, COAL MINER’S DAUGTHER the life story of Loretta Lynn and later the movie THE HEART IS DECEITFUL ABOVE ALL THINGS starring ASIA ARGENTO & PETER FONDA.  To date the song has been recorded over 150 times by various artists including BUDDY GRECO, JERRY WALLACE, SAMMI SMITH, SCISSY SPACEK, K.D. LANG & ERNEST TUBB  to name only a few.  While THERE SHE GOES has been the more successful song, Durwood has had several others recorded by a stellar cast of country & pop music notables over the past half century,
Be assured, when you put HANKS A LOT on the player, Durwood will take you on a musical trip back to the “Golden Age
of  Music".

CARTER classic, WABASH CANNON BALL on the bonus track. The WABASH CANNON BALL arrangement(and probably the best to date) is by noted arranger/ producer/musician BOB DEAN who’s work with country music notables include DOLLY’s sister, STELLA PARTON(top 10 hit I WANT TO HOLD YOU IN MY DREAMS in 1975) & producer/publisher of PAUL OVERSTREET’S earlier material in the mid to late 70’s. If you're a fan of old school honkytonk/country you won't be disappointed with this one.

2006 release and his third. With a co-write on the '50s country hit "There She Goes," -- and with numerous road houses, recording sessions, and radio programs to his credit -- Durwood Haddock was right there in the hot crucible of honky tonk, long before it went all sepia-toned. But to have the old master still kicking around in 2007 could be conceived as little more than a curiosity or stab at nostalgia, were it not for the quality of Honky Tonk Crazy (And Other Love Songs). The album takes a real stripped-down approach toward arrangement and instrumentation, with acoustic guitar and Haddock's big sorrowful voice out front and light washes of violin, occasional piano plunks, and the rare electric-guitar twang fleshing out the more subtle hues. One has to wonder where Haddock has been hiding these 13 originals, for most neo-honky tonkers would give their eyeteeth for just one of these nuggets. Haddock, here at 72, proves himself to still be a top-notch purveyor of traditional country music. These are deeply hollowed-out and comfortable tracks, with Haddock's careworn, unpretentious vocal delivery (which is somewhere in the neighborhood of Merle Haggard's) leading you through a land of old taverns, heartache, and hill towns that he knows all too well. There really isn't a loser in the bunch, but highlights include "You Can Count on Me (If You Can't Count Too High)," "(While the World Turns) Bluer Than Blue," and "Last Night I Really Had a Bawl." This is unabashedly tear-in-your beer stuff, but the relatively lo-fi atmosphere and the sui generis aura of Haddock himself add something stirring and nearly indescribable, though the word "real" certainly starts arriving at it. ~ Erik Hage, All Music Guide. *************Country the way it should be with nick, nick fiddles, steel guitar, electric lead, acoustic lead, piano, rhythm guitar, harmonica, bass, drums and harmony vocals. All new songs. Listing: I CAN'T DROWN MY SORROWS(You've Taught'em How To Swim).....YOU CAN COUNT ON ME(If You Can't Count Too High)...WE MADE TOO MANY MEMORIES....SWEET TALKIN'.....I'M TIRED OF WAITIN' 'ROUND(Til You Get Around To Me)....BABY ONE MORE TIME....THE WORLD TURNS BLUER THAN BLUE....THAT MAKE LOVE TO ME LOOK(In Your Eyes).....HONKY TONK CRAZY(And Bar Hoppin' Mad).....BLUES ON BAKER STREET.....TAKE ALL THE MEMORIES.....LAST NIGHT I REALLY HAD A BAWL.....IF YOU DON'T USE IT(You're Gonna Lose It). 13 performances. DURWOOD HADDOCK/I REMEMBER JENNY LOU CARSON. Jenny Lou Carson’s songs are probably better known than the lady herself. She ranks as one of the foremost songwriters in the country genre. Now industry veteran DURWOOD HADDOCK, whose music career spans more than 50 years, turns to the CARSON song book, and delivers one of the most likable albums of 2005. As a writer himself, Texas born HADDOCK has a multi million seller to his name, the country standard THERE SHE GOES (co-written with EDDIE MILLER) with versions by PATSY CLINE, CARL SMITH, JERRY WALLACE. This is a very gentle album on which HADDOCK plays all the instruments, including lap steel and there’s some wonderful fiddle that shows how good the instrument use to sound before Nashville smoothed out all the edges. Durwood’s voice has the lived in quality of a man who’s lived and breathed country music all his life. This is the kind of album that takes you to the heart of country music. Jenny Lou Carson would have loved it and I love it too. Excerpts from CRAIG BAGULEY-COUNTRY MUSIC PEOPLE MAGAZINE-LONDON ENGLAND (www.countrymusicpeople.com.
