I REMEMBER JENNY LOU CARSON
Durwood's tribute CD to JENNY LOU CARSON was issued with a companion book written by good friend and noted author ARNOLD ROGERS of Nashville, Tennessee. I REMEMBER JENNY LOU CARSON.Haddock plays all the instruments on this 12 song tribute disc on which Carson wrote or co-wrote. When he plays all the instruments , that's Lap Steel, Fiddles, Keyboard, Bass Guitar, Acoustic Lead, Electric Lead, Mandolin, Harmonica, Rhythm Guitars and percussion. He endeavored quiet successfully to keep to the style of Jenny Lou Carson's era. Jenny Lou Carson began with her sisters in radio in the ''30's" as The Three Little Maids, and continued in radio after the group split, later with Fred Rose as her manager for a tim. Haddock's got some interesting history too.Exerpts from Blue Suede News 372 Fall 2005 MB
I REMEMBER JENNY LOU CARSON4 hatsrating (5 hats is the best you can get)Veteran Durwood Haddock has been recording for a number of different labels during his long career. This Cd is country history in my opinion. Durwood's tribute to songwriter Jenny Lou Carson shows both love and deep feeling towards her music. He plays all the instruments himself and has tried to make the songs in the same spirit as they sounded when they were first recorded. This isn't anything for you who like pop-country of today, but it's a goldmine for those who like the traditional country music. This is a record I play almost daily and will continue to do so in the future.Radio Personality Lars Thell. April 2006.
I REMEMBER JENNY LOU CARSON.It was a real great surprise to find a new albume you on the CD Baby site. And the songs are superb. Don't know if you remember me, but we have been in touch earlier during the year. My nameis Lars Gl Lindberg and I'm the MD at MCWC radio in Malmo, Sweden. Ive been playing lots of track from you earlier CD's and it's straight, clean, great Country Music. I would be very pleased and happy if I could receive a promo copy of your new album to use on my shows. Lars G. Lindberg, MCWC Radio Sweden. July 29,2005
I REMEMBER JENNY LOU CARSON.Jenny Lou Carson's songs are probably better known than the lady herself and like her distaff peer Cindy Walker, she ranks as one of the foremost songwriters in the country genre. Now industry veteran Durwood Haddock, who'[s music career spans more than 50 years, turns to the Carson songbook and delivers one of the most likable albums of 2005. As a writer himself, Haddock has a multi-million seller to his credit, the country standard THERE SHE GOES co-written with Eddie Miller. It wasn't until l996 that Haddock released his first album, The Texas Honky Tonk Blues and I Remember Jenny Lou Carson is his second. It's a very genlte album on which Haddock plays all the instruments and there's a wonderful fiddle that shows how good the instrument used to sound before Nashville smoothed out all the edges. Durwood's voice has the lived in quality of a man who's lived and breathed country music all his life while his delivery is relaxed as a home guitar-pull. This is the kind of album that take you to the heart of country music. Jenny Lou Carson would have loved it, and I love it too. Four Star rating. I REMEMBER JENNY LOU CARSON.HADDOCK'S big moment as a writer and performer was in l954.55 with the much-covered, most notably by CARL SMITH & PATSY CLINE, "There She Goes", but many years ago he coppered his country bets by moving into record promotion/distribution/publishing in Nashville. His companion CD, featuring 12 of Jennny Lou Carson's songs, seems rather disconneced from the book "Many Tears Ago, The Life and Times of Jenny Lou Carson, which mentions that "Many of her finest compositions are among the least known today", but playing all the instruments himself to capture the period feel, his labor of love showcases the cream of Carson's catalog. 4 flower rating. Excerpts from John Conquest @ 3rd Coast Music #103/192 August 2005.
I REMEMBER JENNY LOU CARSON.Durwood Haddock is a senior country singer/songwriter, best remembered for writing the crossover hit THERE SHE GOES, a hit for CARL SMITH and cut also byPATSY CLINE, EDDY ARNOLD, ERNEST TUBB, JERRY WALLACE etc. It's unclear why, at this stage of his career, DURWOOD HADDOCK would record a tribute album featuring the songs of a pioneer songwriter like JENNY LOU CARSON...but the end result is quiet entertaining nad provides a refresher of just how prolific Jenny Lou Carson was as a songwriter during the l940-50s. The songs of JENNY LOU CARSON have stood the test of time and the songs have been recorded by a stellar cast of artists both country & pop....so perhaps it's not such a mystery afterall why Durwood Haddock has seen fit to pay tribute to the great songwriter.
